Creative Retreats

Our Creative Retreats give you a period of dedicated time and space, providing a careful balance of guided workshops and uninterrupted personal time.

Designed to help you step out of your daily routine, the retreats foster deceleration so that you can focus your energy through creativity and rest to heighten your senses and increase inspiration, and stimulate creativity.

We offer Creative Retreats in the two calming locations of Collemacchia, Italy and in Scotland’s Orkney Islands.

COLLEMACCHIA, ITALY
The municipality of Filignano in Italy’s Molise region is a hidden gem, in the National Park of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise. The Creative Retreat is centred in the village of Collemacchia, home to Tracy Mackenna’s family for centuries. Tracy is the curator of The Museum of Loss and Renewal. With virtually no tourism in the region, the area is remarkable for its unspoiled access to flora and fauna and world-class Samnite and Roman archaeological sites. The local community is strong and welcomes The Museum of Loss and Renewal’s participants whole-heartedly.

THE ORKNEY ISLANDS
The Orkney Islands are a truly special place, with a unique mix of both a calming and dramatic natural environment. The Creative Retreat is centred in the area of The Palace, Birsay in Orkney’s ancient capital, in the islands’ West Mainland. Birsay has sustained communities of Neolithic peoples, Picts, Vikings, and Scottish Royalty and today is home to a multi national community. Outstanding sites include prehistoric and Norse settlements on the tidal island of Brough of Birsay, and the ruins of the Earl’s Palace in the village. The local community is strong and welcomes The Museum of Loss and Renewal’s participants whole-heartedly.

Our participants say that they return home feeling rejuvenated and inspired, with a renewed sense of focus, motivation and direction. They convey how the unforgettable experience continues to impact on their wellbeing and their work in multiple ways.
