- What is the duration of the residency?
Residencies have a minimum duration of one week.
- Who can apply for the residency?
Creative practitioners, curators and researchers of all disciplines and at all stages of their careers, from any country.
- What does the residency program include?
The residency offers accommodation, and a (online) meeting with the Curator. There is no expectation of a final outcome, allowing for focused, self-directed work.
The residency is ideally suited to creative practitioners and researchers who do not require studio space.
- What are the fees associated with the residency?
The fee is £550.00 GBP (Sterling) per week, per person. This includes costs for accommodation and cleaning before arrival and after departure. It does not cover travel or personal expenses.
- How can I apply?
The application process includes briefly describing your motivation, and the relevance to your work. You are asked to provide documentation of your work and a curriculum vitae.
References are not required.

- Are partners, families, or guests allowed to join residents?
Yes, they are welcomed and can be accommodated depending on the availability of space. A reduced weekly rate is offered.
- Is the Individual Residency Programme self-catered?
Yes. The kitchen is fully equipped.
The closest grocery shop is in Palace village, a few minutes walk from Robbie’s Hoose. Dounby, Stromness and Kirkwall have multiple amenities.
- Are service dogs and pets welcomed?
Service dogs and well-behaved dogs are welcome (kept off furniture). Dog towels and bowl provided.
