Individual Residencies

2019 | Michele Marcoux

Originally from Ohio in the USA, Michele has lived in Scotland since the 1990’s. Like many people who migrate, notions of place, identity and home are not constants. Landscape as ‘home’ is an important idea within her creative practice that she investigates in relationship to both wild landscape and inhabited place. She engages by walking, observing, documenting, collecting. Using a form of ‘bricolage’, Michele teases out buried stories and associations within objects gathered outside, recognizing that it is often through them that she can compose her own sense of ‘home’.

While with The Museum of Loss and Renewal, Michele developed her project ‘Casser Maison’ (breaking the house) which considers ‘home’ as shifting and transitory, and possessions as transferable. Could this help us to imagine and somehow create a sustainable vision of our place on our endangered planet?
