Individual Residencies
2019 | Kirsty Maguire

Kirsty is an eco architect, based in Dundee, Scotland.
Floating for months on a small sailing yacht amongst the melting icebergs and changing ecosystems of the arctic and sub-Antarctica in the endless daylight of the polar summers brought thoughts as well as landscapes into stark relief. These landscapes are not ‘pristine’ but bear the scars of human devastation of natural resources over the last 2 centuries. Closer to home, the historic pillage is often swept under the carpet while we look towards a future of fire and heat. Are we creating Dante’s hell here on earth?
The residency enabled Kirsty to develop and widen conversations with The Museum of Loss and Renewal about the juxtaposition of globalism and localism, belonging and rootlessness: adding climate fury and Kirsty’s personal search for the meaning in building a new home in Scotland, to The Museum of Loss and Renewal’s new venture in an old home in Collemacchia.
