Collect, conserve, curate, interpret and share

A fascinating day spent in the V&A (Victoria and Albert Museum)* East Storehouse in London considering what it means to collect, conserve, curate, interpret and share objects that focus on 5,000 years of human creativity across various media. This is an approach that is in direct contrast to that of The Museum of Loss and Renewal.
Rather than being a museum in the traditional sense that accumulates ‘stuff’, The Museum of Loss and Renewal stimulates people to take time in which to generate thoughts, feelings and ideas. It is a growing collection of experiences that are regularly shared through the activities of its curator, associates, partners and residents, and is a vehicle that enables the consideration of how to lead a more balanced life.
In the V&A working storehouse half a million items are on show in mini-displays, across three levels that are wheelchair accessible.
Information on each object can be found by scanning a QR code located in the display containers. The Study Centre provides access to objects and items in storage and these can be booked via the unique Order an Object facility, to see an on-site object up close with V&A handlers in attendance.
*The Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in London is the world’s leading museum of art, design, and performance.
